What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of dental porcelain that can be placed directly onto the surface of the teeth that show when you smile. Here, they can remake the size, shape, color, and overall appearance of your grin. Veneers are highly customizable to match your unique facial features and smile preferences perfectly. This treatment is minimally invasive and, with the help of local anesthesia, completely comfortable.

What Can Veneers Fix?

Dental veneers can be used to improve the appearance of just about any aesthetic imperfection affecting healthy front teeth. Because this treatment is solely cosmetic, it is not recommended for teeth that have sustained structural damage. In these cases, a dental crown or other sturdy restoration may be preferable. We will discuss your case in full detail during a consultation to determine which treatment is best for you.

Dental veneers can be used to cover up the appearance of:

Close-up of a beautiful smile
  • Chipped teeth
  • Uneven teeth
  • Pitted or grooved teeth (irregular surface)
  • Misshapen teeth (stubby or pointed)
  • Stained or discolored teeth that have not responded to teeth whitening

How Are Veneers Placed?

Dental veneers are placed over the course of two visits to our office. During the first appointment, a sliver of enamel is removed from the surface of each tooth that will receive a veneer. Then, impressions and X-rays are taken and the treatment plan is put in place. Temporary veneers cover up the front teeth during the time between appointments while the permanent restorations are created in a separate lab. Once they are ready, you return to our office. The temporaries are removed and we will check to make sure the new restorations look and fit just like they should. A special etching solution is used to roughen up the surface of the tooth to allow for secure bonding. Then, the veneers are affixed to the surface of each tooth. And that’s it!

How to Take Care of Veneers
